Abstract

The maternal mortality rate in Indonesia in 2021 due to hypertension in pregnancy was 1,077. Pregnant women should get appropriate hypertension drugs and continue until breastfeeding if blood pressure has not stabilized. This study aims to determine pharmacists' knowledge and perceptions of pharmacists towards screening prescriptions for hypertension in pregnant and lactating women so as to increase safety and reduce the risk of maternal and infant mortality. The research method used was descriptive research, data collection using questionnaires and interviews. Respondents in this study were doctors and pharmacists who met the research criteria, namely 20 pharmacists and 3 obstetricians and gynecologists. The results showed 14 (75%) pharmacists answered correctly about hypertension drugs that are safe for pregnant women, 6 (30%) drugs to treat preeclampsia, and 4 (20%) drugs for eclampsia patients. A total of 19 (95%) pharmacists had difficulty serving hypertension prescriptions for pregnant and lactating women and 18 (90%) had difficulty knowing drug safety. The conclusion of this study is the pharmacist's knowledge of hypertension therapy in pregnant and lactating women, the average who answered correctly was 8 (43.75%) people, who experienced difficulties when serving prescriptions as many as 19 (95%) people. All 20 pharmacists (100%) answered that they needed training and information sources regarding safe hypertension therapy for pregnant and lactating women.
